Tarot FY680 HexaCopter - Y6 Conversion Version 2

(date: Mar 16, 2014)

It has been almost a year since I converted the Tarot FY680 HexaCopter to a Y6. But I still wanted to make the over size of this frame even smaller to make it easier to travel with. After seeing a AD1 by ActionDrone, I liked the idea of how all the arms fold in one direction to make the overall length shorter. So that is what I did with my Tarot Y6.

The over all process was pretty simple. I drill 8 new holes for the new clamp positions and re positioned the ESC.

Here is the frame in the closed position. There is 2 reason why I did not have the arms closer to the center. First, the distribution board in the middle is in the way. Without any modifications, what you see is the furthest you can close the arms. It is not that hard to mod the distribution board to close it further but by closing the arms more means I will lose more real state to place the ESC.

In the open position the frame looks pretty much the same as it always did.

Here is another view of the closed position with most of the electronics installed.

Since the new conversion I also upgraded a few other things like the radio, from a Futaba 8FG to a Futaba 14SG. The main reason for the switch is because of the built in telemetry in the 14SG. I also changed the servo camera gimbal to a Tarot brushless gimbal. And finially the camera was upgraded from a Hero 2, to a Hero 3 Black.
