After doing a little bit of research online about the 9x20 lathe I found that the following are the first must have upgrades. First I changed the turret tool post to a AXA quick change post. Next is the compound hold down.

Here is a picture of the AXA tool post I bought on ebay for $145 shipped. It came with all the different holders as shown below. This tool post is not a direct fit for my lathe. The 9x20 lathe turret tool post is mounted with a m8-1.25 post. But the AXA has center post that is 9/16. To simplifiy the conversion I ended up buying an adaptor which converts the post to a larger and longer 9/16 - 18 post to fit the AXA (The outside thread is 9/16-18. The inside thread is M8-1.25. The post is 3.5" long.) You can get this conversion part from LittleMachineShop.com for $9.95

I always wanted a keyless chuck so I bought a one from ebay for $25 shipped.

Here is the 4 bolt compound hold down next to the standard 2 bolt version. This is an very important upgrade because it will elimitate any of the vibrations cause by the weak 2 bolt hold down. I bought this kit from littlemachineshop.com for $54.95 plus shipping. This kit also included the t-slot nuts and all hardware to mount it.
